Lesson 4 will continue to expose the efforts of China’s United Front Work system to undermine American society. This lesson will focus on the many ways China uses indoctrination and coercion to influence the thinking of Americans.
TikTok is a household word in America, with many Americans unconcerned that the content they receive is controlled by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Nor are they concerned that too many Americans have been victim to danger and death when attempting viral “TikTok Challenges.” Perhaps more concerning is TikTok’s use of algorithms which allow the app to target vulnerable users with content which, in too many cases, have alleged to contribute to the suicides of American children. This is the power China, its United Front Work and indoctrination play in undermining the fabric of America.
China can also control the message received by Americans through the use of their huge population, which has massive purchasing power. The desire of American companies to capture this Chinese market allows China to coerce American companies to self-censor products, advertising, and public statements making these companies complicit in indoctrinating America into believing China has America’s best interest at heart.

Furthermore, in an effort to indoctrinate Americans in the classroom, the Chinese Communist Party is increasing its market share of companies that provide educational services in America. Chinese companies are purchasing educational publishing companies and tutoring services which directly serve universities, K–12 schools, libraries and the U.S. military and their families.
And then there is the full blown effort by the CCP to pour millions of dollars into an effort to infiltrate our K-12 public school systems. For over a decade the Chinese have been making inroads into our public schools by creating partnerships between K-12 schools, universities or nonprofits, and Chinese government entities. These partnerships result in special schools called Confucius Institutes, which ultimately advance the CCP United Front Work of making China look like a benign and positive force in America. China is directly funding the indoctrination of American children.

Chinese influence in the schools does not always have to cost China much money or seem to be newsworthy. Sometimes with the help of the local American officials (both elected and unelected) China can slide into our school systems quiet as a mouse to administer the academic and political propaganda of the Chinese Communist Party.
Below is such a story that is, as we speak, occurring in the two school systems in Pataskala, Ohio, the home of Illuminate USA, a 49%-Chinese-owned solar factory.
China In Ohio: The Story of How a 49%-Chinese-Owned Factory in Pataskala, Ohio, Wormed Itself into the City’s Two School Districts
Let’s revisit the story of Illuminate USA from Lesson 3, but this time delve deeper into just how easy it was for a 49%-Chinese-owned company to worm its way into the two school districts in Pataskala, Ohio, allowing Illuminate USA endless opportunities to indoctrinate the students, the faculty, the public and the state politicians—all on the cheap.
Licking County, Ohio, schools have a long history with Confucius Institutes, and even offer Mandarin as one of three foreign languages taught at Licking Heights Local Schools. As a Confucius Institute it receives direct funding from China.
A records request of the two school districts located in Pataskala uncovered many email exchanges between officials in these districts, and Illuminate USA’s Head of Public Affairs, Eric Heis. According to the documents produced by the records request, Illuminate USA donated money and became a sponsor of Southwest Licking Schools’s robotic team. This gave Illuminate USA access to the school, staff and students. Heis (in the records request) said he wished to participate in the robotics program “to highlight what his company is doing for jobs and energy locally and to continue building relationships with the Governor’s office, local schools, and the media.” Late in 2023, Heis invited the robotics team to tour Illuminate USA, and following their robotics competition in Pittsburgh, PA, he emailed the robotics coach asking if the ‘Illuminate USA’ sticker had been placed on the robot during competition.
Pataskala’s Licking Heights Local Schools provided a career day for the junior class at their high school, and, of course, Illuminate USA was in line to attend. However, Illuminate USA did not present as the other companies did, but instead was given the unique and valued honor of providing the closing speech to the entire junior class at the finale of the career day.
Furthermore, Illuminate USA made use of our taxpayer money from Ohio Governor DeWine’s new High School High Tech Intern Program to hire high school students from both Pataskala School Districts to work at it’s factory during the summer months of 2024.
Conclusion
In other words, through the multiple strategies highlighted in this lesson the reader should be able to see how China uses United Front Work to
- alter our thinking/impressions of China,
- leverage our economy and
- transform America, one-town-at-a-time, into a country that finds Communism acceptable, even desirable.

Our children and our freedom here in America are our most important resources. This is why it is so upsetting that the Licking Heights Local Schools is allowing Illuminate USA, which is 49%-owned by the Chinese corporation LONGI and which has clear ties to the Communist Party, to provide internships to its students.
We are the adults in the room and our children take their lead from what we say and do. As Americans we must never forget Communism and freedom are mutually exclusive concepts and, when we present a Communist backed factory as a positive thing, we are doing our children a grave disservice.
The Chinese Corporation, LONGI, has deep ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). If there is any chance Illuminate USA is being influenced by its parent company’s involvement with the CCP, then it is unconscionable to risk exposing our children to that ideology.
China/CCP has a terrible human rights record including but not limited to forced (read that slave) labor, the involuntary harvesting of human organs while the victim is still alive, forced sterilization of Chinese women for population control, etc.
China/CCP approves the transfer of the chemicals from China to Mexico which are needed by the Mexican cartels to make fentanyl. Drug overdose deaths stand at 112,000 a year and continue to climb—the vast majority attributable to fentanyl.
China using the cheap labor mentioned in the paragraph above, along with the massive subsidizing of Chinese products, is undercutting American business in the marketplace and disrupting our supply chains. This impacts the pocket books of the families of every single one of your students.
Lastly, are you aware that Illuminate USA is eligible for hundreds of millions of American tax dollars from the Inflation Reduction Act? This is money that was meant for wholly-owned American companies. This is just another way the families in your school district’s finances are negatively impacted by Illuminate USA.
It is critical the Licking Heights Local Schools sees its current involvement and any future involvement with Illuminate USA as a threat to our children and our country. Further, the offering of Mandarin classes along with exposure to Chinese culture but lacking in exposure of the dark underbelly of Communist rule is totally unacceptable. Whether Licking Heights does or does not accept funding at this time from China for these Mandarin courses, it is still the equivalent of a Confucius classroom. We expect you to disassociate Licking Heights Local Schools from Illuminate USA and to terminate Illuminate USA’s internship program.
